Update after 3 weeks:I’m totally flabbergasted by this machine. I’ve made pots of all sizes using the different brew speeds. When I look at the grounds in the basket, the top outside layer is dry and completely unextracted. The plastic parts don’t fit together well and they all feel (they might be but they feel) cheap. Perhaps it is really expensive to make a heater that can consistently deliver 200 degree water through the grounds but I don’t see how it is worth it at the cost of using flimsy parts for every other part of the machine. Going to return.****I was really excited about this coffee pot. Got tired of pourover after a decade and wanted to make life a bit easier. The coffee is weak. I tend to close the drip to let it brew longer, which makes it drinkable. But I can’t believe I spent $300 on it. I guess it’s ok for hot water.

I’ve been looking for a coffee maker that minimizes how much plastic leaches into the coffee I drink every morning. My expectation (given reviews that I’ve seen, the cost of the machine, the use of glass piping) was that this machine would minimize direct contact of boiling hot water with plastic-y parts. Not only is the water reservoir plastic, but so too is the hopper where the coffee filter sits and the screw top to the carafe. Overall, I don’t believe this is much better than a $20 mr. coffee with respect to use of plastic and potential for leaching into your coffee.Also, the thermal carafe has no pour spout. No really! The coffee is supposed to just dribble out of the carafe and hopefully make it into your cup. The reviewed that talk about how finicky this machine is are right.

I bought this coffee maker in 2012 after looking at and testing other brands, I am very happy with how well this machine has performed. We like a strong cup of coffee and it does the trick. We found that other brands brewed too quickly and didn’t make our coffee strong enough, some were too hot and some not hot enough. The temperature on this Moccamaster is just right.The brew basket drip stop started failing a few months ago and today it just stopped working and basically fell apart. I looked at other reviews of the brew basket and people have not been happy with it. A local retailer wants $24.99 plus shipping for a new one, so I emailed Moccamaster customer service asking if it was covered under warranty and received a reply within an hour. The service rep Oliver said it was covered and if I emailed him my receipt they will send me a new one. So I did and it’s on the way! Great product and great customer service! I am happy with it and in the event I ever need another machine I am sticking with Moccamaster.
