I use this reel for vertical jigging and for using butterfly jigs bottom fishing. I really like the one piece frame construction of this reel. I gives you much more support when reeling in the larger fish. I have matched this with a Shimano Trevela TVC66H when using the heavier jigs. I have caught everything from Cod in New England to Gag Grouper in Florida. And it never gave me a problem. I especially like the smaller profile of this reel. It enables me to be able to palm the reel when vertical jigging. One thing I have noticed compared to the old style Torium, it is much easier to install the reel clamp. This is now one of my most used and favorite reels.

Great reel down to 100’ of water. I have 40# power pro spooled on it for blackfishing (tog) and I like it a lot. Seems durable, definitely palmable and comfortable.A bit of a warning-it is a high gear model (HGA). For anyone looking for a high speed retrieve for jigging this is a great reel. If you need more torque, there is a Torium PG (power gear) that’s like 4.6:1 and is more suitable for deeper water and easier cranking.I would like to see this in more of the 4.6-5.8:1 ratio range, but so be it. Still 5 stars. It’s shimano.

We received the Shimano Torium HGA box with some other brand, much cheaper reel in the box. Very disappointed as it was for a fishing trip. Seems like there was a product swap somewhere along the line.

Yes, it is a wonderful reel. Caught 30 stripped bass resently. No issues it’s smooth and winds the line nice and tight. Drag is awesome, easily accessible, holds tons of braid I have 500 yards of 60 lb with still room for more!!! Casts exceptionally well.

These reel is awesome, Especially when you are fishing 300 foot deep for lingcod or rock fish, the 6.2:1 ratio makes it a lot easier and faster to retrieve your catch , I also took it on the long range tonight trip ,out of San Diego and perform good as well.

I BOUGHT THIS REEL FOR A SPECIAL FISHING TRIP ON THE MISSION BELL IN SAN DIEGO,,, DID NOT KNOW THAT THE DRAG SYSTEM ON THIS PIECE OF JUNK WAS NOT WORKING RENDERING IT USELESS !,,, WHY SHOULD A BRAND NEW SHIMANO REEL WORK ?,,, VERY DISAPOINTED AND SENT THIS PIECE OF CRAP BACK TO AMAZON,,, THE MATE ON THE BOAT SAID A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEM !!!
