If you don’t already own a Porsche, this Saeco Super Automatic Coffee Maker can seem expensive. And if you want to be your own barista you can get a high quality semi automatic and a quality bur grinder for about the same price. And have the option of brewing dark and oily beans. Which you must not do with the Super Automatics as it clogs up the grinder.From what I’ve learned about the art of making great coffee, SAECO engineers have optimized the process for all the variables. The very simple to program choice points for heat of water, quality of milk foam, density of coffee flavor that this machine offers should mean you’ll get all the rich flavor you want. But if you really must have a French roast in the morning you can put a scoop in the ground coffee feeder, press the ground coffee button and voila!I’ve had this machine for a couple of weeks and it has truly improved my mornings. A coffee maker is only as good as the beans you put in it. Spending serious money on a top of the line machine means I’ve given up pre-ground coffee and only buy freshly roasted. Enough for a week’s coffee. Well worth it!The machine warms up quickly, so fresh hot coffee is ready within a couple minutes. Quicker than my boiling a kettle for a French Press. This machine rinses itself when it starts up and before it shuts off. The water filter means de-calcification is a rare. need. Monthly cleaning to remove oils is a breeze and the milk supply can be steam cleaned after each use, very, very simply. We looked into a couple of close competitors at similar price points and felt this Saeco has the edge. It seems to be very solidly made. A friend has an earlier version that’s been running for four or five years without a problem. If this machine proves that dependable then the cost will have been well worth it. Especially for the enhancement to quality of life from a really first class coffee first thing in the morning. – The one possible negative is that my coffee consumption has tripled since we got this machine.A lot of money just to get perfect coffee. But for this household it has been well worth it. Best money I’ve spent this year!UPDATEI’m still very happy with this coffee maker, but now have had enough experience with it to refine my review. I’ve run the various cleaning tasks and these are not a chore. Very straight forward. I think, for the money, Seico might have included a couple of cleaning tablets, one for the coffee and one for the milk. But these items are easy enough to find on line.Small issues: The ground coffee is hit or miss. About every three or four goes the machine cancels the process and the coffee is lost. The process has to be repeated to get straight coffee. I’ve tried setting the sequence before and after putting in the spoon (they provide for accurate measurement) of coffee. Haven’t figured out why this happens. – The “sound’ button doesn’t seem to do anything. On or off makes no difference. — The drip tray is made of silver plastic which marks and scratches easily. I wonder if they couldn’t have used the same material as the front of the machine, which is a very nice dark material that looks good and is easy to clean.I am impressed with the gradation of choices for exactly the kind of coffee experience you want. The better the bean the better the coffee. And then it is a matter of strength, hotness, amount of milk., or none … And when you’ve found what you prefer, simply add it to your profile for consistently excellent coffee.It was worth the cost. But there is room for improvement.AND Good luck with their service and trouble shooting! After three weeks I couldn’t get the pre-ground coffee to work. The machine would just dump the coffee in the grounds bin wand cancel the brew. So: How to find out what the problem is and how to fix it? Don’t call Seico unless you like to be on hold for a very extended period of time. And no on line resource that isn’t just what you ge in the manual. Very poor….So I knocked off one star, and I notice they knocked off $500 off the price….

Machine looks very nice, several drink options and easy to operate. Nice to just push a button and do you morning routine and a nice drink is waiting for you. But only if you want a lukewarm coffee….the temperature is basically room temperature. Tried all options and set temperature to “high”, warmed the coffee mug etc. Same thing. Called support who told me this is how the machine works and that there is nothing wrong with it. It makes good hot water if that’s only what you want though! So I have a $2300 water warming pot. Nice!

Nothing was hot. I realize temperature is important but even on the highest setting each drink was luke warm at best. Overpriced and undelivers

Update: 2 weeks after receiving this machine and loving it, it’s now only putting out hot water. I used the “ground coffee” spot once – otherwise I was using whole beans – and since, it hasn’t worked. I did all the troubleshooting. All the cleaning. I finally called philips saeco. The customer service guy said “the beans you are using might be too oily”. I almost lost it. So…what he’s saying is, I used espresso beans, and the espresso machine doesn’t like it? I am shocked. I asked if they could send me a new machine and I’d send back this one that doesn’t work. They said they’ll only take it for repairs because it’s not defective. I think if a 2500 espresso machine isn’t making espresso, its DEFECTIVE. Then another guy called to talk to me about beans. He literally said the same thing that dark roast beans are not good in this machine. They’re not good for the grinder because the oil makes them pop out like popcorn instead of being fed into the grinder. told him I want to pick up whatever beans speak to me, whether it’s a luxury bean or from target, put it in this machine and get coffee. but it won’t do that….so, if you would like to baby your machine and worry about it getting mad at the beans you’ve chosen, don’t buy Saeco. Original review: I’m a coffee snob. If I’m going to make it or pay money for it, it better be exemplary. I like a strong, robust brew. I’ve tried countless espresso machines, french presses, foamers, coffee makers, etc. I even had a hard time finding a burr grinder that was passable. THIS…now this…yes. It’s expensive. BUT….if you get your morning coffee out, if you pay 3-5 bucks a day? DON’T DO IT ANYMORE. Buy this machine! It will pay for itself in a year and 1/2. Plus, you don’t have to go out to get it. I work from home so I always make my own coffee…but I’ve been disenchanted with every machine I’ve tried. I haven’t been happy with my morning cup. It’s all changed now.This is easy to set up. There are written directions as well as screen prompts on the machine to walk you through it. Dude. This even adjusts to your water hardness(you get a water test strip in the box). There’s a built in water filter. The machine cleans itself. You can customize all of your drinks. Like it stronger? More milk, less milk? just adjust it on the screen. I had also been making a mess grinding my own beans, but this does it for you. Wanna use ground coffee? there’s a spot for that too! It’s sick how amazing this is. You don’t have to make your foam, it does it for you. I was tired of those steam wands. No wand now. Want just hot water? no problem. It’s best to keep a little bowl under the spout since it cleans itself when you turn it on and after it makes something. Otherwise, the drip tray will catch things just fine.The only thing I’d change would be which side the milk port is, but that’s just due to my cabinetry. There’s 15 different option to make something. Americano. Coffee. Latte. Macchiato. espresso. cappuccino. I feel like I’ve finally gotten into the gates of coffee heaven.

Believe the 4 and 5-star reviews. They’re spot on. I’m very satisfied with this super automatic. I’ve had it for about 45 days now and it definitely performs as designed, described and advertised. Outstanding. I breezed through the 1-star reviews after I ordered and got a little sick to my stomach because I felt I had invested so much in a luxury I have wanted for a long time. I was afraid I’d be disappointed. Not so! After a month + of use, I cannot duplicate any of the flaws described in the 1-star reviews (and I have tried). I highly recommend this machine.

I’ve been upgrading my espresso machines over the past 15 years and decided this would be my next machine. It is by far my favourite machine. The choices of the different types of drinks it will make is amazing.It is simple to use and so convenient. Yes, the price is a bit on the high side but I am loving this one!

i used to own a Delonghi Macnifica; works like a charm for coffee; but weak milk temp; so we only make coffee and do our milk separately;This machine Xelsis is amazing’ we can adjust almost every setting for what we would like; we are family of 4, but only three drink coffee; now the machine have three profile for each of us; make things easy; with the old machine, i am the Barista; I have to do the coffee for everyone; now only touching the screen; everyone can have their own coffee at anytime they like.downside? i think the crema is not that rich; although the coffee is full of flavor; but for a machine i can clean almost every part; I am very happy
