I bought this vacuum 13 months ago now and I figured it’s time for a short review.I’ll start with the pros:1) this thing is lightweight, about as much as a gallon of milk. My previous vacuum was a cheapo (by cheap I mean about the same price as this) dirt devil and it easily weighed 20 pounds.2) the vacuum is easy to work on if you ever have to. You can have it apart in 10 or 15 minutes with nothing more than a #2 phillips, swapping the motor shouldn’t be more than a 20 minute job but judging by the size of the thing it should last a while, the carbon brushes are also huge so I don’t expect to have to shell out the $75 to replace those any time this decade.3) it’s powerful, the aforementioned beefy motor sucks up everything just fine, from stale cereal my 1 year old hid behind the couch for later to my wife’s forgotten hair ties to every single cord I forget to get out of the way before I start vacuuming. I expect the belt would give out before the motor would if she ever jams up.I see folks talking about not being able to pick up stuff against the walls but if you go in front ways instead of sideways it’ll suck it up good.4) swapping the bags is easy, just hold on each side of the hole on the stiff cardboard part and push straight toward the port.5) it’s cheap! You don’t get a lot of features but it’s a vacuum for crying out loud! You get a lot of suck for the dollar.Cons:1) No attachments but you should know that already. It’s a vacuum and that’s it.2) loud as hell, but it isn’t like you have to listen to it all day every day (unless you do, then get some earplugs)3) those belts are a pain to swap but you only gotta do it once or twice a year, just swapped my first one today after 13 months of use. Be prepared to manhandle your vacuum to get the brush reseated once the belt is on it.In conclusion, you get what you pay for, Oreck compromises on features to give you a good vacuum for the price.

So I bought this vacuum cleaner as a replacement for a Shark Professional Lift Away canister vaccum. The shark had some issues, namely:1. It had an attachment tube through which all the suction power at some point went. This tube was made of a material that kept cracking and we had to duct tape it. In the end it was more tape than tube and this led to a loss of suction.2. I was absolutely SICK of emptying the canister and digging out pet hair and inhaling the dust and cleaning the filter etc. It was nasty. My wife and I made a deal for the housework. She would do the downstairs and I the upstairs. Since the upstairs is 100% frize carpet, the vacuum quickly became a point of contention for me.I did my research (A LOT OF IT) and came to Oreck. I didn’t feel like shelling out 500+ dollars for one of the super top of the line home versions that are aesthetically pleasing and instead opted to pocket the cash and buy this workhorse for 150 bucks. And I am IMPRESSED.We have 3 dogs and a cat. The dogs are a Siberian Husky, a German Shepard, and a St. Bernard. Needless to say we a have a LOT of pet hair. Some reviewers have mentioned that they didn’t think the oreck was effective for this. These people are lying to you. Our carpets are now amazingly clean. This thing sucks up debris and pet hair like nothing I’ve ever seen. Its a BEAST. And its lightweight. The bags hold a LOT and when its time to change them out you just pull em, toss em and replace em.They are cheap. I’ve been through 2 in a month and got a 25 pack for like 15 bucks. Get the scent tabs. You can really smell them at first, after the first couple of days you cant smell anything, which hopefully is the point. Some people have mentioned a burning rubber smell when they started using the vaccuum. I noticed this too, but I think it is just a burn in phenomenon as it quickly went away. The replacement and maintenance parts (belt/roller) are both on amazon for under 10 bucks. I expect to change the belts and rollers on occasion and have this vacuum for a decade. It doesn’t have any attachments. it just cleans the carpets and floors superbly well. We’ve used it downstairs on wood and rugs and tile with no issues and it has pulled up loose pet hair and cat litter with no problems.Give it a go. Best vacuum I’ve ever owned. See pictures for pet hair effectiveness.

I bought my first Oreck XL in 2006. It lasted me 11 years with very little trouble. In fact, I’d probably still be using it if it weren’t for the fact that I shorted out the motor when I incorrectly installed a new power cord. This new style model may say Oreck, but it is no Oreck. Granted, the price has come down considerably since the shake up with the company a few years ago, and as the saying goes, “You get what you pay for.”The (few) positives:- very light and easy to get around the house- Long power cord, so I can vacuum a whole level of the house without needing to change outlets- strong vacuum motorThe negatives:- the metal handle is attached to the plastic vac tube with one lousy screw. It’s constantly flexing and bending as I vacuum, and I know it won’t be long before the handle snaps off- the plastic threaded collar that connect the bag attachment portion of the the tube to the intake part, you can never get tight enough. I have big strong hands, and even after cranking on that thing as hard as I can, it still wants to work itself loose all the time.- the bag attachment. Oh God, the bag attachment! It’s terrible! No matter what you do, you cannot get the bags to stay on for more than a couple vacuums, leaving you with a lovely surprise when you go to change the bag – a plume of dust and debris to the face!I only wish I’d cashed in on the 1 year warranty before it was too late. Thankfully, I didn’t pay $300 for this one, so I won’t be broken hearted when I have to throw this piece of crap into the dumpster. Sad what’s happened to Oreck. I guess it’ll be a Sanitaire for me next time.

Back to the basics..Don’t let the out-dated ergonomics and style of this Oreck fool you.I’ve owned a shark, a dyson, Hoover, kennmore, Electrolux, even a variety of wet-dry vacuums. This Oreck out performs them all, on both tile & carpet.A+ Oreck

The problem I was trying to solve with this vacuum is that I was tired of lugging a huge canister vacuum all over my rather small house where I have three floors and not a lot of room to maneouvre. Most of my floors are low-to-mid-pile carpet and for those that aren’t carpet, I don’t normally vacuum them – I mop and/or sweep. Most of the upright vacuums that are readily available in stores seem to be heavily-marketed to look like they’re more than they (like what is done with modern cars), and with this comes a significant amount of bulk and loss in functionality. I wanted a vacuum I could put in my closet when I wasn’t using it, and something that went flat to vacuum underneath beds and other low-lying furniture. You’ll probably know by looking at this whether it’s what you want – you are likely looking for function over form. It turns on and off. It has one height only and the cord is manually wrapped around cord retainers at the back. It’s light (I can carry it one-handed up the stairs). It has good suction. It’s quite noisy. It doesn’t have a light. It doesn’t have attachments. It is just what I was looking for.For cleaning things other than floors, get Oreck’s canister vacuum (BB1200DB or similar). It’s a nice bridge between large canister vacuums and cheap handhelds and wins again in very similar ways.

At the start provided excellent cleaning ability.Stopped working properly after two months. Quite disappointed after hearing great things about this vacuum.Update: Amazon Customer Service was great. I have a replacement coming, will update my review and score based upon the performance of the replacement.Final Update: After running the new one in it seems obvious that my original one was faulty. The replacement has performed well and has had no issues. The cleaning power of the vacuum is very good, the suction is quite powerful and it does provide a nice deep clean. The only flaw of this vacuum is that it is quite loud. Not a major issue since I have a quiet handheld for quick pick-up jobs. You don’t want to run this too late or early.Noise aside, it is a very good vacuum.

Being used in a clothing store, 95% standard low grade carpet and 5% ceramic. Mid-size sq. ft. As lightweight as advertised, excellent suction, cord length is great. Doesn’t overheat. Great height. Easy to assemble. A little loud, not horrible. The grip is slightly uncomfortable, that’s continuous half-hour usage though. For quick cleans, you won’t notice. Will report back in 6 months.

I purchased my first Oreck approx. 15 years ago along with a free gift of a hand vacuum which is still in use. Last month I finally had to replace my much loved machine with its holed bag (which I had stitched) but, after years of hard use, the steel stem broke so…..I shopped locally and bought an Electrolux which is also an excellent vacuum – except that it was too heavy for me (a senior with arthritic hands), made one heck of a racket and had to be adjusted. After three uses I ordered my second Oreck (at half the price of the Electrolux) and gave thanks upon its blessed arrival only three days later. The Electrolux is up for sale and I am happy to have an old friend back in service. The long cord is labour saving; the refill bags are easy to install; the machine is light, easy to push and it cleans well. Love my Oreck!

This is a great vacuum for a home. Lightweight, long cord, easy to use. Apologies for my lack of vacuum lingo but I hope you understand what I am saying… However, we bought it for our workplace where we use plaster so there is a lot of dust and when collected it becomes heavy in the bottom of the bag. Because of this the bag disconnects frequently.. When we open the zipper to change the bag almost always the debris is all over. (This proves the suction is great but they should figure out a way to better fasten the bag to where the debris is collected)

I’ve decided to change my review after owning this vacuum for almost a year now… The unit is very loud! I’ve owned about 35 vacuums in my lifetime and this thing is the loudest one ever! You literally need hearing protection or you’ll risk hearing damage. It gets clogged quite easily and it has no filtration, so everything you vacuum up gets put in the air. (Not good for health) The bags rip easily and blow-up in the unit. They’re absolute junk! Unfortunately, Oreck is the type of company that designs a model and they’re done with it for 20 years. You won’t see any upgrades or improvements done for another 10+ years on that model.

Very disappointed in this vacuum . Automatic floor to carpet adjustment doesn’t happen. Need to be a body builder to push and pull the vacuum across even a low pile carpet. Light weight but no large wheels in the back so must be carried around not easy to roll. Very loud , if using commercially, give employees earplugs or they may sue later for hearing loss. I’ve been running a janitorial business for 25 years and have used so many types of commercial vacuums. This one is not user friendly for commercial. Only good things about this vacuum is light weight, long cord and the price.

It’s very good in so many ways but like other vacuums it’s not perfect. They say it can go under beds but that depends on how high the bedframe is. Most bedframes are lower so you still need a canister vacuum to be able to vacuum under the bed. Also it gets close to corners but still you need a canister vacuum to suck up the dirt in the corners. I do love my oreck vacuum but as a house cleaner I do recognize it’s limitations. To do an awesome job you need two vacuums, oreck and a one to do corners and under beds. I do have to mention that Oreck not only does an awesome job on carpet, it also brings it back to life and makes professional looking results.

Good performance for the price, however a few flaws. It is quite loud and would consider wearing earplugs if using it in a commercial cleaning setting. Also the bags easily fall off them out and sometimes also fi good performance for the price, however a few flaws. It is quite loud and would consider wearing earplugs if using it in a commercial cleaning setting. Also the bags easily fall off them out and sometimes also burst prematurely due to something being sucked up. No HEPA filter either. Still give it a good review though just in relation to price it is quite a good vacuum.

I have owned other Oreck vaccuums but none have been this loud–deafening on wood floors. Also miss the option of two settings (one for carpet, the other for bare floors). It’s okay but not better than that. Still has the advantage of being light weight and working well. Just too loud…

Product is great but the cord is really heavy for home use. I am a senior and appreciate the lightness of the vacuum itself but cord not so much. I have owned ORECK products for 35 yrs. my last vacuum for 8 yrs. my last product still works with great suction but the handle broke on it and was cheaper to buy a new one then fix it. I do love my new product as it really cleans.
