Regarding Leaking Blue Liquid Reports: I had some concerns about purchasing this item due to the high number of reports on numerous websites that the blue liquid leaks. I contacted KitchenAid in the first week of February 2016 before purchasing the item and they stated there were no reports of product issues and therefore, no intent to change the design. I just shook my head in disbelief. By chance, that night I saw a review on a huge home improvement retailer website addressing this issue and a representative from KitchenAid responded and stated that the product had been redesigned. When I forwarded this information to the KitchenAid rep, they actually looked into it and stated “oh right, there was an issue, and it has been redesigned.” So those who have this concern, it has reportedly been fixed. My only concern remains in whether I have received a new redesigned item versus an old one…. that issue, and the price dropping 20% one night, is why I decided to purchase it from Amazon. I figured the high volume of sales would make it more likely that I had received a newer product. As for the product, I have used it one since I received it four days ago. I bought it because I don’t like how the majority of the ice cream has corn syrup in it… I want natural pure ice CREAM. There’s nothing more gross to me than when ice cream melts into a puddle of syrupy looking goop that is not cream or milk. After hours upon hours of researching my first recipe, I decided upon a cheesecake based ice cream with peanut butter fudge brownies & peanut butter ripple mixed in… It froze SO fast and hard that I actually had to let it soften before I could hand mix the add-ins into the ice cream base. Next time, I know to add them much earlier in the freezing process. The quality of the ice cream was very high: very rich, thick, creamy and delicious. But too rich for me… I think my next batch will be frozen yogurt (along the lines of Ben & Jerry’s raspberry with fudge chips) or sorbet.

First of all, I have always loved Kitchen Aid products, including this ice cream maker… until a bad factory design and poor customer service entered the picture. This works great to make ice cream. We have enjoyed trying all kinds of new recipes until recently when the gel inside the maker started leaking out at a joint. We have always taken excellent care of this and it has absolutely no cracks or scratches. The leak is coming from a badly designed exterior unit. I contacted Kitchen Aid but since it’s been more than a year they will do absolutely nothing to help or cover their product other than to offer 20% an already inflated price for a new one. I bought one for my in-laws and they faced the same problem with the same bad service. In looking at reviews on Kitchen Aids own website, there are countless similar stories. Their design is flawed and they won’t make things right. I heard Pampered Chef just came out with an ice cream maker… perhaps I’ll give them my business.

I really like this attachment. I read the prior reviews and was a little worried about leakage but I have no worries so far. I have made the vanilla ice cream recipe from the instruction booklet and a chocolate ice cream recipe from the internet. Both came out beautifully. I think the key is to remember even with an attachment it is a 24 -hour process. The bowl should be put in the freezer when you start to make the ice cream and allowed the 12 hours to freeze. Probably should not be stored long-term in the freezer. Really no reason to when the mixture needs to cool for basically the same amount of time. Also, once the ice cream mixture has been blended and heated it must be cooled for 12 hours in the fridge before mixing in the frozen bowl, Once the churning process with the attachment is done, I do not store the completed ice cream in the bowl. I use another storage container. Lastly, the bowl should never be cleaned until it has completely thawed and then it is not submerged to clean – just wiped out and then stored. It seems like a lot but once you make the ice cream the process is simple. Just follow the instructions the manufacturer has given then you will have it for a long time. ( I am hoping). If you want ice cream fast then I would go to the store. This does an awesome job and takes a lot of work out of it but care needs to be taken. I am thrilled with this attachment and the homemade ice cream is awesome!

This is such an amazing attachment for the kitchenaid mixer! I have made so many batches of ice cream this year (coffee, chocolate, black cherry chocolate chip, plum, banana cream, etc.). I don’t understand the bad reviews on here and wonder if people are caring for the attachment as needed. Put it in the freezer about 24 hours before you want to use it, take it out and make your ice cream, leave it on the counter to thaw for 12-24 hours, then wash it. I’ve had zero problems with mine, and the ice cream recipes that come with it are fabulous 🙂

I liked everything about this! I bought a Cuisinart ice cream machine, once and it didn’t work plus the “custermer service”, wasn’t great either. I haven’t bought a cuisinart product since! But this ice cream attachment, works really good! I suggest though, is churn the ice cream for 30 min.So the fat globuals get mixed better. If you used heavy cream, that wouldn’t be necessary. 25 min. should do it.I made a coconut ice cream (just used coconut milk) and used coconut sugar and thus needed 30 min.

I don’t like appliances that could only do one thing so I decided to get this attachment though I hesitated for a long time due to reviews saying that the blue liquid leaks. So far I am liking this but takes quite some time for it to freeze. I usually freeze the bowl overnight so that it will be ready the next day after I make the custard and let it fully chill in the fridge. I hope the liquid won’t leak!

Bought another one to replace the one I had previously where all the coolant had leaked out. The drive attachment for the dasher is different than previous models and in my opinion rather terrible. It doesn’t cover the drive shaft so ice cream gets all over the spring (if your model has one). It is also not near as sturdy. After 2 bowls of ice cream, the drive attachment bend after the dasher started freezing. Thankfully I have my original dasher and drive attachment so I’m not at a total loss.

This ice cream maker is great! Because of milk allergies we use coconut milk to make ice cream and it works great. I love that we are in control of the ingredients we put in our ice cream and we’re saving money making our own non-dairy ice cream!! It’s a real treat!! I did read many of the reviews and the instructions included… I am careful not to wash the mixing bowl until it’s completely thawed (usually leave it over night) and I make sure it is completely dry before putting back in the freezer and I’ve had no problems. The other thing I really like about this is it’s an attachment to a appliance I already own. I didn’t have to struggle to find room for another appliance, just another bowl, which I just store in the freezer.

The driver assembly is not the one shown in the picture. The newest model is very cheaply made. I have broken two already using recipes provided by KitchenAid. I give it two stars because the freezer Bowl stays cold a long time and you do not have to rush to get your ingredients into the machine. Also customer service was very attentive.

Absolute garbage. Unfortunately I didn’t realize I only had 30 days not 60 to return this piece of crap otherwise I would have sent it before I went on a trip. It skips as soon as the sides start to freeze and the attachment stirrer has already started to chip plastic off I attempted to try doing this multiple ways to see if it was user error because kitchenaids are usually great but this piece absolutely sucks!!

LOVE IT SO MUCH! We made some berry ice cream the day after receiving it and are very very very pleased with our first try! It is too bad that the bowl supports on the side cannot be removed for machines that do not need them. Otherwise, we are very happy with this.

I purchased this to make homemade ice cream for my son who has Crohn’s disease. Almost all ice-cream products sold commercially contain carageenan, which he can’t have. The recipes are simple and the ice cream maker is so handy! You don’t need rock salt, just freeze the bowl before use and voila! I had one hiccup when I used the bowl once but after a quick troubleshooting search, I found out my blade was getting stuck by the liquid freezing below the blade – after a quick adjustment it worked great! I highly recommend this product to everyone. I’m no chef but couldn’t live without my Kitchen Aid mixer and the attachments that I use.
