This is not a crock pot! It is indeed a slow cooker. I bought this as a Christmas present to myself and decided on this model because America’s Test Kitchen said it was the winner and the best! WRONG! I thought the first one I bought was broken because it would not cook pinto beans. I started them the night before on medium and by next morning they were still as hard as a rock! I had to boil them on the stovetop and then put in crock pot to keep warm. I called KitchenAid and they sent me a new one. I tested each setting with water and temperature probe on the new one. I found that the highest temp the slow cooker goes to is 192 degrees and that was on the high setting! On the low and medium setting it stayed at a consistent 167 degrees. No change between the two. If you wanted to cook a chuck roast you would need to put it on the night before and have it cook all night and all day on high to get a tender roast, maybe! Ridiculous! I’ll just go buy the standard Rival Crockpot. I had one for 19 years and it did great. Don’t waste your time or money!!

This was a top rated pick by America’s Test Kitchen, which is why I bought it. This is my second one in 3 months. The problem comes, in that it doesn’t really heat up as it should. This was also a problem with the first one I received. It doesn’t overcook the food, (which is the most common problem with slow cookers), it just takes forever to cook the food. No food gets burned or scorched, which is a good thing, but it gives new meaning to the word SLOW in slow cooker. In addition, it does not seem able to reach a temperature anywhere near 200 degrees regardless of setting, and I have tested the temperature using multiple digital thermometers. It’s maximum temperature seems to be somewhere in the 167-182 temperature range. The temperatures achieved in the unit reviewed and recommended by America’s Test Kitchen, were significantly better, while still staying below the boiling point. A huge plus.

I bought this slow cooker after reading a very positive Cooks Illustrated review. I’ve used it about once a week since I purchased it Jan. 1, 2015. About a week ago, the black part of the base separated from the main part of the slow cooker. I’ve treated the slow cooker gently and it’s never been dropped, etc. It looked as if the parts that held the black base to the chrome heating element had broken off, and there was no way to tighten them. It looks like a defect in the design.I sent in a request to KitchenAid customer service and received the following email:”I am sorry to hear that your slow cooker came apart and can certainly understand your concern. However, it is no longer covered under the one year warranty. I apologize for any disappointment this may be to you. We can offer you a discount on a new cooker. They normally retail for $129.99, but we can reduce that to $99.99 today. If you would like to accept the offer, please call our number below so a representative can adjust the price for you.”Note: I can purchase a brand new version for $84.72 on Amazon as of today. I’m very unhappy with the product and KitchenAid customer service.

Product arrived out of the box with pictured defects. Also could not get temp to work right. Recipe slow cook said 6 hrs at low temp. I did 7 hrs at medium temp and still had to cook in over for 45 minutes.

Finally, a slow cooker that is a slow cooker. For example, I made a large batch of beef stew yesterday, and I set the temp for “medium”. I kept tabs on the temperature throughout. It reached 185 degrees after 4 hours and finished 4 hours later at 195 and a perfect stew in the pot. So, this really is “slow” compared to the typical speedy slow cookers abounding today that consider 200 degrees to be low. Consider me a throwback, but slow cookers back in the day used to take 8-11 hours or even longer to cook meals that their speedy cousins finish in 4 hours today. I think the extra time produces a better meal. (Another unusual aspect: this cooker has replaceable silicon rings that sit the top perfectly. Until the cooker is in use, the rings are loose fitting and capable of becoming unseated. Maybe that explains the complaints about the top not fitting snugly.)

I am with the many others who have said this is a nice looking slow cooker, but there is a problem with the heat level, I also purchased based on the Cook’s Illustrated review and because I’ve had no problems with other products I’ve purchased based on their reviews, I didn’t take the bad reviews here and on other retail sites seriously which is too bad because I’ve wasted my money. I have owned three other fine slow cookers over the years from an ancient Crock Pot that my husband had when we married to an All-Clad slow cooker. I bought this one to replace the All-Clad which was expensive, but at least it worked perfectly for many years. I will have to junk this one after just a few uses because it won’t cook anything I’ve tried –beans, meat, vegetables– in anywhere near the time called for in the recipe and before the meal is ruined. In 30 years of using crock pots, my meals were always cooked in the time stated in the recipes but this one won’t even cook carrots tender on High heat setting in six hours, much less the meat. Unfortunately, I can’t return it because the return period has passed. The only thing I can see using it for is maybe a food warmer when I entertain, but it takes up too much space in the cabinet so it’s probably going into the garbage can.

This product was ordered as a Christmas gift in Dec 2018 to replace another unit which broke. Unfortunately, the unit display panel failed after 31 days of ownership, which was one day after the return window closed. Contacted Whirlpool and advised will be replaced. Will provide an update on the warranty replacement process once concluded. Still like the product, when it functions. I think Kitchen aid quality is not what it used to be.

We decided to keep this gift that our daughter didn’t want for Xmas. We are using it now and the larger size is nice even though we got an Intstant Pot for Xmas, I find I still like using the slow cooker and have serval recipes I use for it. It was rated very high on YT.

I would give a 0 stars if possible because of hided Lead information. Beware that it could contains ANY amount of Lead and ceramic insert is not the best quality. It has a lot of uncovered spots.

I have been very disappointed with this slow cooker. I have tried various recipes in this slow cooker and they all seem to not cook very well. Even on high for 7 or 8 hours, potatoes aren’t cooked, veggies aren’t cooked. Not sure when you would use Low and Medium settings because you always have to use High to cook anything and then it takes forever! Liguids don’t even bubble. Lid doesn’t seem to fit well. Contacted Kitchenaid and they told me that they always cook everything in a slow cooker on high. Seriously! I wouldn’t recommend as I am now looking for another slow cooker.

This product has failed us a few times now…we weren’t sure what happened the first time, however we have had more issues since. The power says “on”, and when we have it set to High there is some heat being generated, but only enough to warm the pot. Some times it works, other times not. Ridiculous performance considering the amount of money spent on this small appliance.

Purchased this model and brand after my previous slow cooker died. Works well, and seems to maintain temperature better than my previous Crock Pot brand slow cooker. The KitchenAid is also better built. The only thing I prefer about the Crock Pot over the KitchenAid is the oval shape which allows cooking wider cuts of meat. However, this is not a show stopper and I’m very happy with the KitchenAid.

Bought this after reading all the reviews I could find. And My lid fit just fine !Cooked my first chilli in it 8 hrs. Med. perfect. My 3rd. slow cooker and this is by far the best, my last “ crockpot “ model boiled food on low, so this is a treat.I would definitely recommend this .

Made the recipe many times in an old manual Crock Pot and always great. Not with this one though. Six hours later on high and the rice was still not cooked. Very disappointing! sent it back.

Excellent size and the control panel is very easy to use. Do not wash the liner and lid until cool to the touch, my original crock pot is 40 years old and is still going strong but it is 1/3 the size of this lovely new one.
