A brief video to show the machine, coffee compartment, water tank, making coffee, and emptying the grounds and drip trays. We really love this machine because we love great coffee but we don’t make frothy milk drinks. This machine produces very, very good coffee from scratch at the push of a button, automatically grinding the beans pumping through hot water and dumping out the “puck” of coffee grounds into the internal bin. It’s a nice compact size and fits easily on a counter under the cabinets. We bought this to replace another Jura machine we have had for the past 10 years, which after many thousands of cups of coffee started to leak and get a bit temperamental. The Micro ENA-1 is smaller and cheaper than that older model, but produces the same great (maybe even greater) coffee.

Here is the problem. The machine is very temperamental. One day it works like a charm, next day it does not do pre and post flushing. Next day it dumps the water and the coffee in the basket, nothing comes out of the espresso spout. Then try again it works.. So few weeks ago I went to the Jura site and submitted the product support contact form. Have not heard from them yet, not even a automated email. I travel a lot for work, so never have time to call them, expected some sort of online support at least via email.Unfortunately I LOVE the espresso this machines makes (when its working)!

I’ve had this coffee maker for six months now and feel I have sufficient experience with it to write a review. On the plus side, it only produces ground coffee as a waste product – no plastic pods or other environmental contaminants and makes a reasonable espresso. On the negative side it really doesn’t like coffee beans unless they are dry, oily ones clog up the mechanism (if you use Pete’s Coffee beans – this is not the machine for you). It does not appear to build up a lot of pressure and produces a mediocre espresso. Periodically it will flash a variety of random lights at you and refuse to work – in these cases removing the water tank and various trays and then shaking the machine has “rebooted it“ for me.For the money I was expecting a much better machine, but I was also getting distraught at the quantity of single use plastic waste my Illy iperesso machine, combined with my coffee consumption habit, was producing.I do not think the coffee brewed by this machine is as good as a Nespresso or Illy Iperesso machine costing less than a quarter of the price – or even given as a free gift when you subscribe to the pods. But then, it doesn’t produce the waste. When it breaks I will not buy another, in the meantime it will do. Solid 3 stars.
