I’ve purchased many DeWalt products in the past, and am generally very happy with their tools, but this saw has been a huge pain for me.But, I think most problems stem from the packaging on this, so I would just say that if you do buy the saw, don’t purchase it on Amazon. Go right to a shop that sells it and buy it there.It looks like it was shipped in the box that you would normally buy it in a store, so there was no rigid packaging for shipping. On top of that, the sliding arm wasn’t locked down, and the bevel wasn’t locked down. So, the saw banged side to side and slid forward and back for the entire duration of it’s trip, resulting in a scratched fence and blade and destroyed box.I thought that was the extent of it, so I just chalked it up to poor packaging. But, after using the saw, I found out that it is not square, and I cannot make it square. It works fine if you don’t do a sliding cut, but as soon as you go past 6 inches, it is off about 1/16 to 1/8. You can adjust it by hand to square it, and then move the pre-set notches to square it yourself, but I cannot get it square at both the 0 inch cut and the 12 inch cut. There must be something off on either the fence of the sliding arm.Also, it doesn’t cut at a level depth-stop. When make a sliding cut using the depth-stop, it cuts about 1/16 of an inch too deep for the last inch of the cut. As far as I know, there is no way to adjust this, so there is something seriously wrong with my saw.Again, I think it was all in the shipping and I don’t want to dissuade anyone from buying this saw. I called up DeWalt, and they said that I can bring it into their shop about 30 minutes away from me, and they will fix it, but that is the last thing you want to do when you spend $600 on a new saw and it doesn’t work out of the box. It’s a lot of hassle for something that should have been hassle-free.

Although my old Craftsman compound mitre saw still works, I need a way to cut wider boards (wider than the craftsman 8″ max) without trying to flip the board or cut on the table saw. This Dewalt at 16″ cut depth handles a much broader range of board widths and is very accurate. This saw runs much smoother , quieter, and more accurate than my craftsman. Obvious other improvement is the shadow line, which lights up your cut area and shows where the blade will cut. Cuts are easily within 1/64″ using the shadow line. The price was decent at the time of $499. I have only a couple of negatives. When you drop the blade down to the cut, position your cutie and hit the trigger, the saw is so powerful that the saw arm jumps down into the wood before you’re ready. You just need to make sure that you pull the trigger well above the work piece before bringing it down for the cut. A second negative would be the depth necessary for setting this up on a work bench. I have a 24″ deep work bench and it won’t fit. You need about 36″ bench depth. This is kind of inherent in all the sliding mitre saws though, just a little worse on this one due to the 16″ cut depth. I added extra wood to the top of my work bench to accommodate the extra depth if I’m using it on the bench (I also bought the dewalt stand, awesome!) . Other reviews mentioned that the 2 rods that the ball bearings ride on for the sliding motion get gummed up with saw dust. It seems like all these sliding saws use the same method. It slides very smooth for me out of the box. Out of caution and because I only use the sliding about 5 to 10% of the time, I added 1″ i.d. conduit insulation to these round rods. It’s cheap, only $2.50 for 12′, and covers the rods completely, sealing at each end (see pic). They only take a few scones to remove if I need the sliding feature. I cut the pieces 1/8″ longer than needed so it would be a snug fit. Overall very happy with this purchase, highly recommend! !

I have only had the saw for a few weeks, but it seems to be everything that was claimed. A very solid, well-made tool. It is powerful and accurate and relatively easy to adjust. The work light and blade image light make cutting the intended line very easy and accurate. The improved dust collection system is also a plus – but a small option/improvement could make it better. The dust collection tube terminates just beyond the end of the rails and when connected to the dust bag or a dust collection system adds several inches to what is already very large depth requirement for the work bench or work area. Several inches could be saved simply by terminating the collection tube a couple of inches short of the end of the glide tubes and putting a 90 degree bend (or providing a matching 90 degree elbo that would allow the dust tube to be connected to flexible hose that would not interfere with the travel of the back of saw.
The Great Gazoo –
I got this for an excellent price – $200 below the big box stores regular MSRP. It is a fantastic saw and I have been using it for several months for various projects – big and small. It is pretty quite for its size. I have a fairly well lit shop and the XPS light works great – I haven’t tried it in direct sunlight but I don’t think that it would work that well. You’d be better off with a laser light for that. I immediately upgraded the blade to a nice 80T Freud for cleaner cuts as most of my woodworking is on the fine side of things. This is my first saw of this type and it was really nice being able to cut a 4X4 in one slice without turning over the piece.There are cheaper saws of this type out there but you really get what you pay for. Besides, it’s always cheaper to buy it right once.

Es una herramienta muy padre, la capacidad de corte es la mejor y es muy facil de calibrar, se siente mas robusta de lo que te esperas y el sistema de led para saber donde va a cortar el disco es una maravilla. El diseño del extractor de polvo (si se le puede llamar así) no es perfecto. Ya que el polvo sale en todas direcciones y es un tubo que debe capturar algo así como el 30% aun así creo que es la herramienta eléctrica que mas uso y que mas me gusta usar en mi taller.

Die Säge arbeitet sehr präzise und macht hochwertige, gerade Schnitte.Die Linienführung per LED gefällt mir sehr gut. Man sieht einen Schatten an der Stelle der späteren Schnittkante. Das ist präziser als ein Laser, der versucht, die Schnittkante zu finden.Einige Arretierungen sind sehr minderwertig und locker befestigt. Das trübt den positiven Gesamteindruck ein wenig, schränkt die Säge in ihrer tadellosen Funktion aber nicht ein.

Most of my power tools are Dewalt. I had a Dewalt mitre saw and was recently stolen, caused my project came to a halt.The saw came quickly, after open the box, plugged in, it is much quieter than my previous one, I am completely satisfied until, I noticed a spot (see picture), which looked like “sand holes” of casting. I worried a while and checked, double checked and was sure the spot was simply bad “make up” (painting). That spot costs one star.

Purchased this saw to replace my original 10″ miter saw which I have had for a few years. My previous saw did not provide me precise miter corners even though I had checked and adjusted the guides and angles a number of times. Thought it might be a user problem but when this saw was available at a reduced price compared to local retail I decided to make a change. It is remarkable how precise it cuts without making any adjustments. I checked the blade and fence angles when received and found them precise and angles accurate. Kinda wish I had made the move earlier but when starting out it is hard to purchase top end on everything, however this was a great purchase which should give me accurate cuts and last a lifetime for the handy man work it does. Delivery was less then a week and quicker then the estimated delivery date. It operates better on a 20 amp circuit. Found it was occasionally tripping the breaker on a 15 amp circuit when starting.

Came perfectly calibrated – blade is alright though I guess for smoother cuts you’ll want to replace it. The shadow cutline on this puppy may seem like an expense – the time you save lining up work is worth it – though I havent tried it out in broad daylight outdoors. Light and sturdy too – great job Dewalt!

I’ve always wanted a quality mitre saw, and decided to invest in the DWS780, along with a Dewalt compact mitre saw stand. Both are top-notch quality and design. Dewalt just seem to know how to design things to be just right. The saw is quite a large beast, but not unmanageable. Everything works with precision, and works well. Mine has the laser guide technology, which is cool and seems to work very well. No complaints about the unit, other than the dust collector tube doesn’t come with a dust collection bag, like some of the other Dewalt mitre saws do. This will be in my shop mostly, so not a problem to hook the collector up to my shop vac. Overall I’m very pleased with the saw. Delivery was fast and it arrived well packaged, and intact.

The feature I like the best is the shadow-line LED that shows you EXACTLY where the blade is going to land. This is a way better idea than any laser. If you change blades, the shadow-line changes with the blade.This saw has calibrated stops for all the important angles. Flip them in or out as needed. All angles work from both sides… nice.One caveat, make sure your blade will not hit the upper fence. If you don’t pay attention, you can do it. I wasn’t careful once….This is a great saw and very precise and predictable.

Single most used tool I have, worth every penny. Love the led guide line, makes cutting much easier and more accurate than eyeing it out and adjusting when cutting. Get this double bevel version with the sliding action, well worth the extra money over the lower models.

The box came with some missing packing cardboards inside. Not sure whether this was because it had to go through Canadian Customs (I tracked this item through UPS and the first location was “Canada”). Works very well so far (2 months). Quality built and materials. The XPS shadow system for lining up the cut is awesome (no need for occasional laser line adjustments anymore). I usually bought Bosch but decided to give Dewalt a try. I’m happy with it and have since bought other Dewalt items.
