Regret this drill. My first change from Milwalkee in 3 decades. Bought this for its reputed power, compact size and balance. Chuck never locked. Drill bit kept slipping under pressure. When it finally locked, the chuck refused to open. After twisting it open with a wrench, It never closed again. It remained permanently open. Had to disgard it. However I assumed I was the unlucky one in a million so I tried the DWD 112 without complaining and took my losses. Now I am told this one can shock me and I need to return it for a fix but nobody has been killed yet.I am forced to throw both in the garbage. I bought this online and I live in the West Indies. Sending this back to the USA for repair for me will be more expensive than buying a new one.I believe Dewalt owes me a refund on both drills. My second choice will be a working replacement for the DWD 115. It was just what I wanted only to realize the one I got was no good. This has been a really bad experience with Dewalt. I have two brand new useless drills.

For a corded drill, this drill can’t be beat. Very sturdy and made out of very fine materials. Easy to setup, easy to use. I have seen complaints about this model having wobbly chucks but this one is absolutely straight and true whether the bit is small or very large. Trigger is very and sensibly easy to control; goes smoothly from very slow to absolute tops in speed. Not too noisy but really gets up and goes when the work gets tough. Also, very comfortable to hold and use, even in tight quarters or for extended heavy duty work. I don’t think that it could ever overheat due to the cooling fan pulling through a tremendous amount of air.An absolutely first class drill that I wish I had bought long ago. Thanks DeWalt and Amazon for making this so easily afordable and possible.Update 1/14/2014:Had a few glitches with the chuck acting as if there was something binding it up when opening up and closing down on bits. Could see nothing wrong but the problem persisted and I finally opened up the chuck about half way and put a few drops of Castrol synthetic motor oil into the opening around the edges. Held the end of the chuck in my fingers and slowly ran the drill back and forth with the chuck pointing upward forcing it to close and open its jaws a few times and the problem disappeared. Have used the drill several times since and the chuck is working very smoothly without a hint of the original binding. Just thought this might be useful to someone.

I was sick of battery packs running out of juice halfway through a project, so I went back to the cord and I’m glad I did. This thing packs almost 3/4HP, enough torque to make your hand turn without touching any material. Plenty of drilling power, probably way more than my household projects will ever need. When run up to full speed, it takes 2 seconds or so to wind down, so this might not be the best choice of tool for any delicate work you might have, or even something as simple as tightening a loose screw. My wife stripped a few cheap screws trying to tighten up a chair when the bit didn’t grab properly, and it didn’t shut off instantly like the usual battery operated drills.Quite heavy but well-balanced thanks to the center grip. I definitely prefer this style over the pistol-grip style.Has a little leveling bubble at the top/back, I can’t imagine what use that could possibly be. Maybe if you need to drill a perfectly horizontal hole, it will be of help to you.My one complaint on this one: there is no “off” switch. The toggle, right in front of the trigger, switches from forward to reverse quite easily, but there is no detent in the middle for a locked/off position. That seems an oversight for a very powerful and corded drill.

Powerful, fast, easy to modulate, and high quality drill.- Power. This drill works just as great to drive screws as it does to bore. Thanks to ample power and excellent speed modulation I can get long screws in with no effort or slipping.- Speed. This drill has the best RPM in it’s class and this is important when you go for boring metal with small bits. You need to have fast RPM for that. Even if you don’t do metal it’s still great to have a bit of a headroom for wood.- The trigger is super comfortable to use and it controls the speed very nicely. I don’t find myself looking for the right pressure to get the speed right. Also the mid handle grip is very convenience towards balancing the drill in your held with further reduces strain and allows your finger to control the trigger more accurately.- Quality is solid. I can not say its amazing, but this is also not the most expensive tool either. The chuck itself is a tad off-balance but it holds the bits perfectly straight. I tried two Black and Decker Matrix AC drills before and both had an issue where the tip of the drill would noticeably travel sideways at each rotation so the wholes were never where I intended them. This DeWalt is dead on precise,

This “seems” to have rheostatic, rather than electronic speed control. I can’t be absolutely sure without taking it apart, but there are no “steps” in the speeds, so I’d bet a 6-pack on it.As far as the beans, this drill’s got ’em. My most common use for an electric drill in my shop is to start recoil (pull) start engines when the recoil assembly is off of the engine for repair, or to start my 12hp Tecumseh (on an old Bachtold weed mower) or 7hp Gravely, both of which use a non-recoil rope for starting. Winding the rope is a PITA, so if I’m in the shop, I use a hex to 1/2″ drive adapter (Irwin) and an in-line ratchet (Proto) on the flywheel pulley nut. This drill starts both of those engines with NO TROUBLE at all. There isn’t a cordless drill in the world that has that kind of grunt. The other common use that I have is to drive a 1&1/2″ auger bit. I poked some holes in an old chestnut beam that I had marked out in anticipation of getting this drill, and it did just fine except that the starting torque is a little tougher to modulate than I’d like (it seems to “roll on” too quickly).Overall, a great drill for the price.

It is a powerful drill. Simple to use.The second time I use it to drill a floor board it failed to work. The quality disappointed meDeWalt is more expensive than others but the quality control should have been better. It is second drill from DeWalt that failed on me. The first one I got was cordless and the battery failed con charging within the first week of use.I m very disappointed.I think they are now using cheap parts that don’t last long.

I was looking for corded drill that I can use as screw driver as well, and ended up with this one. It is of good quality, powerful, the only concern was if it is useful as screw driver, there are some reviews about button usage not being smooth enough on initial low speed, but I didn’t find any issue, it is well controlled on initial pressure with low speed to drive screw in. So, if you are looking for well priced/value corded drill with second purpose as screw driver, it is a good option to consider.

It’s a dewalt, its a powerdrill, what’s not to like. There are very many cheaper ones out there but I bought this one to replace one that I “lost”. It was also a dewalt and worked without fail for 14 years. When it comes to tools, you spend a little more money when you purchase it but you never have to replace it.

the best drill ever bought, order on 06-05-2013,,,received at home on 08-05-2013,,,thank’s amazone.ca,,very good and promt services.the drill has a chuck with no keys, completly all steel, better than the standard chuck which are made in plasticand always are easy to break.the only comments is the weight of the drill,,,which is almost 4 pounds, but for use on the floor is ok,,,thank’s again to amazone,,you are the pro.

This is a typical Dewalt product, compact in size, well-balanced, and strongly built. The 8 Amp motor gives it plenty of power, while the centered grip is very ergodynamic and practical. I’m very pleased with this purchase at the Amazon sale price.

Modèle à fil agréable à utiliser pour grands travaux (tel un patio, gyproc…). Très puissante, et ses 2 niveaux, horizontal et vertical, sont très utilses. La valise est appréciée.

Really nice, comfortable drill. Just don’t understand why the battery operated DeWalt drill gets to be 1/2″ and this one only 3/8″.
