I will start with – I am not a coffee or espresso snob at all. For at least 5 years my daily fix has been satisfied by Starbucks at about $4-5 per day, which adds up. However, I don’t really spend exorbitant amounts of money on other habits like smoking or going to bars, so it worked for my budget. But to be honest, the coffee drinks I like (mochas) are too many calories and going to Starbucks every morning was getting inconvenient. I had a Mr. Coffee espresso machine for a year, but it created too many dishes to wash and the product wasn’t strong enough. Finally in December 2017 I was fed up and searched for a better quality espresso machine. I settled on the Nespresso with the Aeroccino because the reviews were great and it looked like there would only be one dish to hand wash – the aeroccino itself. The pods ARE pricey and there’s a minimum order to fill, but priced out, my drink came to $1.50/day (I use two pods) vs $4-5 a day at Starbucks. This is a difference of $45 vs $150 per month. The taste of the espresso is great – I use the Kazaar pods. But it did take me a week or week and a half to get used to the nespresso caffeine vs. Starbucks. I was groggy for that adjustment period. Now it keeps me going til afternoon and then I just have a cup of tea later. As far as the performance of the Aeroccino, it’s weak. It does not really steam the milk well, it heats it up and then froths the top layer. The foam is not appealing to me. I’ve tried all fat contents of milk to compare. However, it’s ‘good enough’ for me. The Aeroccino is easy enough to clean, especially if you do it right after you froth so the milk residue doesn’t get caked on. My major issue is that the Aeroccino stopped working for me today after only owning the machine for a month. I have a 4 year protection plan, but it is still covered by the manufacturer’s warranty at the moment. This is disappointing and I hope that I had a defective unit and the replacement will work for a long time. I’ll update in a few months.

Once you get it figured out, it’s fairly simple and super easy to use. Not sure if I was doing it wrong but I couldn’t get it to initially come out until I filled the water tank higher. So, I don’t know what the hell a “lungo” is but I think I made one and DEAR LORD. I may divorce my husband and marry this machine. I come from Portland and whatever I just made would’ve cost me a good $3.85 at a coffee shop out there. I frothed the milk– here’s the catch, the instructions for the frother thingy are confusing. Like, could ya just go with words for the diagram man? Then the explanatory wording in the booklet left me unsure how to go between frothing or just making hot milk. Anyways, maybe I put the lid on wrong or overfilled it but it did spill over a bit on my first try. Luckily it didn’t reach the electrical portion of the base, but it was close. So I frothed the milk and poured a little in as this magical thing produced my fancy lungo. A little Ghiradelli chocolate sauce on the bottom, mixed it up, even attempted a neat leaf on top (and failed miserably). Safe to say I’m impressed.

Update, November 2018:I’ve had this machine for about five months now, and while I never loved it (see below), things have only gone downhill. It no longer brews the coffee properly, with tons of leakage down inside the machine, and although I’ve tried descaling and restoring factory settings, the coffee is now coming out watery and inconsistent. At least it was relatively inexpensive, but it’s time to cut my losses and move on. I don’t love the Essenza mini but more that likely I’ll just go with that as I am really wary of investing more in another machine as they all seem to have very mixed reviews these days.Original review, June 2018:I wanted so badly to love this machine after my Nespresso U needed to be replaced. My U was used once or twice daily for about 5 years and I loved everything about it. Sadly, my Aeroccino Plus also died at right around the same time so I selected the Inissia + frother combo as it was by far the best value for what seemed to be a comparable machine. To be fair, it does still make an excellent quality espresso or lungo and I have not had any technical issues with the machine so far. But the overall design of the Inissia is just not as well thought out, particularly if you use it to make lattes or cappuccinos rather than straight espresso. The drip tray on the U was magnetic and could be easily removed and placed on the side of the machine to accommodate a larger cup. The “flip-up” tray on the Inissia, by comparison, is awful. It doesn’t stay up on its own and when a larger mug is placed under the nozzle you have to line it up with surgical precision to make sure the coffee actually brews into the cup and doesn’t spill everywhere. I also have the machine on top of a pod storage drawer, which used to allow it to perfectly accommodate my travel mug with the drip tray removed. Now, with the Inissia flip up tray in the way, it just won’t fit properly underneath no matter how carefully I position it, and I have to stand there and hold my mug directly under while it brews. A minor inconvenience, but still. I also miss the elegant slide open and close of the U to insert pods, and it could not have been easier to use. No joke, my two-year-old used to be able to make my coffee which he had so much fun helping with! The bar that needs to be pulled up and pushed down on the Inissia is just not as pleasant of a design and feels clunky. Finally, the water tank is difficult to detach for refilling, and for some odd reason the cover of the tank does not seal on the top, but rather folds down with about a 1/4″ opening in the back, which causes it to spill if you fill it up too far. It’s just a very odd design. Maybe I’m super picky, but I’m a bit surprised no one else has complained about these issues before!Bottom line, if this were my first experience with Nespresso I’d probably be slightly more satisfied, but I wish they hadn’t discontinued the U and I would definitely select a different machine next time. I’m probably going to keep this one for now because it really was a good deal, but I might justify upgrading to a better machine once I’ve recouped my investment after about a month or two of making $5 lattes at home again.

I’ve only had this for a week but so far it’s working great. The espresso tastes amazing, especially the intense/ darker ones. It comes with sample pods which is really helpful in determining what you like. The frothier works well but seems to overflow slightly every time I use it, even when I am not filling it to the max fill line. It’s the perfect small size to keep on a counter and in my opinion a great deal for the price compared to some of the larger Nespresso machines. The frother alone is $99 on their site, so I definitely recommend this bundle on amazon. I did a ton of research Still, I would highly recommend. You won’t want to drink regular coffee anymore.

Wow what a fabulous little machine! And the frother is fab too! Super easy to use, and clean, and takes up little space. I ordered this mainly for my airbnb travellers as I don’t drink much coffee, however I now use it too. I just wish there was a good selection of teas available as a lot of travellers also drink tea. The reusable pods I ordered separately work very well too. The Inissia is a keeper. Order it!

The pods don’t drop in properly so you waste really expensive Esspresso pods.Shouldn’t be complicated or a struggle for the cost of the machine. I’m returning it.

Overall I am pleased with the Nespresso coffee maker. I would like to be able to use reusable pods and use my own fresh ground espresso coffee.

This is my second machine of the same model and the I’ve only stopped using the first one after I moved from Europe to Canada. I’ve been waiting for months for the price of this machine to drop and got it at last. I can prepare a lot of espresso recipes very easily. Once you get accustomed to drinking Nespresso in a routine you won’t be able to drink any other coffee.
