I live in south FL on the water and fish year round – I started looking for new reels, when my brand new Penn Fierce 2 8000 series reel had drag issues while fighting a nice shark. The drag on this 8000 BG is twice as smooth, and doesn’t bind up like the Penn Fierce 2 drag. Ive already caught 2 nice sharks (5-6ft) on this BG with no issues, and the drag was extremely smooth.

This thing is a beast! Hands down the best reel I ever purchased under $100. Daiwa could have easily priced this thing double and it still would be a bargain. Cranked a couple of 15+lb ling cod and a 20+lb wsb so far and it hasn’t even flinched I’m ready for a real test when the tuna come around. My only quip is that it’s a bit heavy to hold for an extended period of time but hey maybe I need to work out. Loaded it with kastking 80lb at first and kastking did NOT live up to it’s name. Reloaded with 80lb Daiwa j-braid x8 and now it’s smooth as eggs.

This reel is built like a tank! I got the 8000 series and I put 400 yards of reaction tackle 80lb braid on it and it casts very well. It is a bit heavy in hand indeed but the quality and size you get with this reel is completely unmatched at this class of reel. No Penn or shimano will come close to the spool size or drag pressure this has in the 100 dollar price range. Some 500 dollar reels don’t perform this well. I’m a sold Daiwa customer with this purchase.

I can’t say for a factor this reel is light weight since i got 8000 series. Compare to my daiwa emblem pro 6000 BG compared relatively almost the same. The only difference is the reverse mechanism which this does not have. So far i have use it in salt for crabbing, ray, and shark fishing with 65lb test, and its smooth reeling.Like the fact that it reels better than penn battle 2.Overall so far, loving it. Can’t wait to catch bigger fish with this reel. The only thing i did not like is having no line holder on the side of the reel, it would have been perfect for me if it had one since im use to having it on all my reels.

I bought this reel because I just got tired of how my old bg90 worked, how I could feel all the gears grinding when I’m reeling my rigs out so I decided to get the new series of the bg because my other older two lasted me and never gave up on me. I go sturgeon in the fall and spring basically at least once a week. I spooled it up with 150lb braid and it’s the smoothest combo I’ve ever held in my hands. TWO THUMBS UP! Diawa always has great products

Excellent reel, used it for the first time yesterday, went fishing for triggerfish in Puerto Penasco, I fitted the reel with Berkeley trilene 40 lb test line. This is an awesome reel, very sturdy, where others reels have locked up while trying to reel in just one triggerfish (cochito)at a time, this reel allowed me at times to reel up 3 triggerfish at a time with no hesitation. And that is no easy task . I would definitely recommend this reel & give it5 stars & 2 thumbs up2nd fishing trip with my new reel . This reel is awesome . I reeled up 4 triggerfish & 2 Rock bass on a 6 hook rig at one time today. I included a picture of some of the fish I caught today.

Handles salt water splash with ease, smooth drag, feels great in the hands, well built and it has a ton of line capacity. I am very happy with this reel – only slight complaint is that it doesn’t have a line grip on the spool however, the smaller ones do. I would buy this over a Stradic any day based on the quality to price. Do your maintenance after each use and it will be good to you for years to come.
