The Daiwa BG Spinning Reel sports high-quality components and industry-leading ingenuity, making this one lean, mean, fish-fighting machine.

The BG is equipped with a “Hard Bodyz” machined aluminum body and side cover for strength and internal part stability.

To increase the strength in the form of corrosion and scratch resistance, Daiwa has Black Anodized the body and body cover.Air Rotor weighs 15% less than ordinary rotors, because its unique shape cuts out the fat while distributing stress more evenly for maximum strength in a lightweight design.

The ABS spool’s maximized core diameter and reversed taper means no dead line buried deep in the core, and it causes less casting friction for longer and easier casting.

It’s also braid-ready. Daiwa’s machined aluminum Screw-in-Handle design provides zero movement or play between the main gear and handle arm, offering the angler both confidence and control when rotating the handle.Inside, the BG features a seven-bearing drive system that consists of six ball bearings and a single roller bearing.

Infinite Anti-Reverse can be found in 4000 model reels or smaller, while Infinite Dual Anti-Reverse is in 4500 models and larger.

The Carbon ATD (Automatic Tournament Drag) is waterproof and allows for super-smooth performance.

The oversized Digigear System increases gear-tooth contact points and provides smoother, extended gear life and more power with increased torque. 4500 models are larger also feature a manual return bail.

It’s a great reel, compared to other reels, this feels smooth and has a ton of power behind it. Do a bit of research and you will find mostly praises for this reel. For around 100 dollars, it cannot be compared. It feels smooth, steady, and provides you with confidence that is required to handle bigger species. I use this for everything including saltwater and freshwater. The only thing I had trouble with was fitting the 4000 sized reel on to a Shakespeare elite 7-foot medium. The foot of this reel was a bit too large for the reel seat of the Shakespeare but I forced it in somehow. I do surf fishing with this and trout fishing by switching my leader. I have a 15 lb braided line and when targeting different species, I change my leader from 20lb to 4lb. Recently pulled a 2lb Monkeyfaced prickleback out of a hole with this combo with relative ease.3 Months UpdateI really enjoy and recommend this reel, I will buy multiple sizes for different rod setups. I fish on mostly on jetties and I have fallen and banged this reel up, it still runs like a champ. I try my best to take care of my tackle, but accidents do happen. :/I paired mine with a Shakespeare Elite:Ugly Stik Elite Spinning Rod 7′ – Medium – 2pcUpdate 9 months:I pair it now with a UglyStik Elite Spinning Fishing Rod (Salmon/Steelhead) with is a much better pairing for this reel size.Shakespeare Ugly Stik Elite Spinning Fishing Rod (Salmon/Steelhead)Still no problems fishing saltwater with it. I just do a simple rinse with tap water and everything function flawlessly. No squeaking, just dings, and scratches from fishing off the jetty and resting my reel/rod on the rocks. Caught 23inch lings and halibut with relative ease. I fish twice a week so I am extremely happy with the purchase. If any other reels I have fail I will replace it with this one again.Update (18 months) 1.5 yearsStill going strong, accumulated more dings to the reel from falls and such, fishing once a week at least I still haven’t serviced it yet (I should) and it is still working as it should. Only thing I did to the reel is to sand the top of the spool since it became rough due to me falling and banging the reel on the jetty rocks but the reel is still surviving and works as it should. This is my only rod and reel I bring since going to the jetties and having reliable gear means a lot to me. My father just broke his Penn reel that I bought for him I will be replacing it with this one since my experience with it is such an excellent one.2 Years without a hiccup.Great reel, I fish with it once a week in saltwater, if you rinse it off every time after you fish and do maintenance yearly (I did my first one after 2 years) I believe it will last a very long time.

So far so good! Caught multiple Sailfish, wahoo, blackfin tuna and Mahi on these slick reels. Fast retrieve, solid construction and good looks for a Benjamin? I bought 8 for my charter boat and haven’t been disappointed yet.Update: I purchased 8 bg6500 and 4 bg4500 reels Nov 2016 and have absolutely thrown everything at them. Good: Drag system, infinite anti reverse, metal construction. Bad: bail roller corrodes easily, getting seized in the process. Costs $25 to replace…

This is an outstanding reel, it has a rubber gasket around the spool to make it easy to spool braid without any hassle or need for a monofilament backing. The handle just screws on, it seemed kinda shady to me but it hasn’t loosened or threatened to come off yet so i’m pleased so far. The BG 3000 is a small reel, the action is very good and smooth and with practice you can make it reel without even using the handle. It’s built like a tank and it is easy to adjust the drag. I combined mine with a 7 foot ugly stik with 20lbs test green spiderwire and it’s been phenomenal so far.

The Diana BG3000 cast and retrieves like butter…….but…..after five or six outings it developed an annoying ‘catch’ at the point of going from the completed cast to the reel-in. To begin reeling in, one hast to crank it back then forward to begin reeling. A real pain in the butt. I bought this one for my son’s birthday last year and was just on the verge of trading in my ole Mitchell 300 (at least 40 years old) for another Diana BG3000. I just got around to addressing this problem and after my attempts to fix it failed I looked up the warranty period…….du, du, du…….. daaaaaa! I missed the one year term by about 15 days. Maybe the 3 stars is a bit generous. I’ll give my ole Mitchell 300 5 super duper stars for sureUpdate: DO NOT BUY THIS REEL. IT WILL SPOIL YOUR FISHING EXPERIENCE. GET A ZEBCO AT WALMART…YOU’LL BE HAPPIER.

Loaded with 30# braid and spent a week casting for stripers. Very happy, smooth action, bail is closed manually (one of the reasons I wanted it) so heavy baits do not snap the action closed and break you off. Better than my old black and gold and my 704’s and 750SS’s. Fast retrieve with a solid drag. I am sure this reel will pass the test of time with proper care. Well time to get back to fishing…………………

Hard as nails reel, took this to the amazon rain forest, battled arapaima, red tail cat fish and piraiba . Enormous cranking power and stunning looks. Compared to a uk carping reel this thing is leagues above.

Wow factor reel when it comes to spinning. And also 10/10 for this supplier as I needed an answer to a question before purchasing the reel, not only did l get a prompt answer to my question but received a full break down of all the specifications for this item. It also arrived within a week of ordering to boot.

I have used the Daiwa BG 4000 several times now. Mechanically the reel works excellent, it reels very smooth and the drag system feels well built. There are some plastic components on the reel, the rotor and and the bottom of the main body. I do mostly shore fishing and these parts will scratch and get marked as you need to be cautious when you place your reel down. In my opinion the reel is well worth the money spent as it feels it will last a long time. It would be the perfect reel if it were all metal construction. This reel would have no problem pulling out any fish from our Ontario waters, except for the Sturgeon possibly.

This reel is so much fun to use and a beast for durability.Since Daiwa announced the updated versions of the classic Black-Gold reels, I’ve been itching to pick up one and take it on the water. I finally got my chance when Amazon stocked it, so I didn’t hesitate. Price was fair and came in cheaper than the larger outdoors stores, so that’s a positive. At the moment, I’ve got this reel paired with a Fenwick HMX 6’6″ XF rod and using Sufix 832 Braid. The combination is well balanced and lightweight. The only tip I can provide is to NOT overload this reel. For my purposes, I know I can’t cast 200 yards, so I’m not going to unnecessarily overload the reel. If you do, you’ll enjoy a lot of tangles, and that’s just not a lot of fun.Build quality feels solid all-around and after 100+ hours on the water so far, doesn’t show any weak points or signs of wear. I’ve checked the reel arm, the spool and all moving joints – I’m pleased to say it still looks brand new.Casting is very smooth with the only faults being the occasional user-error where I’ve overshot my target – but that has nothing to do with the reel. The retrieve is also silky-smooth with a very confident crank when you’re bringing your lure in. There’s no wobble or noise reeling in. When you get the reel, just spin the crank to evaluate the smoothness, if there’s any play, double check the fastening of the handle. The drag system is a real gem on this reel, handling much more than similar reels of this size and very durable.I’ve had great luck this season with Bass, Pike and Walleye – this reel handled them all without choking. For the price compared to other reels in this size, you’re getting a lot of the features which are on reels priced at $300+. Happy hunting.

I was impressed with this reel until I tried to switch the handle while traveling. I couldn’t get it to fit for right hand retrieve. I swear thats how i had it set up prior to travel I took the handle off. I ended up using it let hand retrieve. I think the threads are damaged. from left to right the design was different. check one out at the department store if you can before purchasing.
