I bought this because I wanted a coffee maker with a good thermal carafe. There are lower cost options available, but I assumed this Cuisinart unit would be a level above. Unfortunately, I’ve found the thermal carafe to do a very poor job of keeping the coffee warm. After about an hour, the coffee has cooled to the point where I reheat it in the microwave after I pour a cup. It’s clear that most of the heat is being lost through the lid and the plastic top. Other issues – difficult to pour water into the reservoir – at least as a left-hander; basket often drips when carafe is removed during brewing – the little valve at the bottom is unreliable; carafe has a tendency to dribble when pouring coffee out of it; basket does not sit flat unless in the coffeemaker so getting the ground coffee into the basket can lead to coffee into the water reservoir and other places. Just a poor design and execution. If you’re looking for a thermal carafe that performs well, I’d keep looking.

Update: I’ve had this coffee maker for 3 weeks now and I do not recommend this coffee maker for individuals who programs their coffeemaker before they go to bed. I’ve exchanged numerous emails with Cuisinart and not satisfied with this product. I always program my coffeemaker the night before so that my coffee is brewed when I wake up. My husband immediately noticed the first time we used it is that the coffee isn’t hot. It’s a step up from lukewarm. I inquired to Cuisinart and their reply is the thermal carafe is colder than a glass carafe and suggested I warmed it up by filling it with hot water prior to brewing my coffee. What?! That shouldn’t even be necessary and folks like us who set our coffee the night before can’t do that. Second issue, the resting plate doesn’t stay hot like I’m used to. My previous one would stay hot for 2 hours after brew and would signal the machine is turning off. This machine however shuts off once the brewing is complete. I went to pour myself a 2nd cup of coffee an hour after it was brewed and the coffee was cold so I had to microwave my coffee. The plate is hot only during the brewing process then shuts off. Unbelievable. Third issue, went to pour a cup of coffee in mid brew since it has an automatic pause brew feature and nope, there was no pause in the brewing because the coffee kept pouring out and spilling onto the resting/hot plate. I’m beginning to think I have a lemon product. With our previous Cuisinart coffeemaker which had a glass carafe, the brewed coffee was hot and stayed hot for a solid 2 hours. I replaced my old one with this one because I’ve cracked the glass carafe 4 times in the 10 years I’ve owned it so I wanted a thermal carafe to potentially save money. This product is useless to us and now I’m researching to buy a different one. So much for saving money.I received my coffeemaker Monday and have made coffee for 3 straight mornings. I always brew 6 cups of coffee for my husband and I. This coffeemaker is replacing an older Cuisinart model I had with a glass carafe. I’ve replaced my glass carafe 3 times so I thought it was wise to go with a stainless steel thermal carafe. Immediate thing my husband and I noticed is the coffee isn’t as hot as our previous Cuisinart coffeemaker. Our previous one brewed HOT coffee we would have to wait a few minutes to cool in our mugs before sipping so we couldn’t burn our mouth or throat. This new Extreme Brew coffeemaker, we don’t have that issue. The coffee is colder and we can take big sips immediately after we pour. Another thing I’ve noticed, is that when I refill my mug an hour later the coffee is cooler and the hot plate is nearly cool. I’m beginning to think I bought a lemon product.

We have had a Cuisinart coffee maker for over 10 years. It wore out so we got another one. It leaked. So we thought no big deal, it’s defective. So we replaced it with another Cuisinart. And this one leaks. What’s going on Cuisinart? We are now inconvenienced with having to replace it yet again. What is going on in your quality control department?
