    With dozens of similar items on Amazon running from $19.95 to $300, I chose to go with the Breville brand at a reasonable cost ($69 when I purchased it). I did not want a cheap, easily breakable item at lower cost, especially considering the use of this thing (for me) was for entertaining, and would be used in front of guests. I have other Breville products and am very happy with those products and with their customer service. Made in America, and when I called to ask for some hand-holding on one of their products, the phone rang twice and a person answered the phone that I could understand, and she helped without a single transfer to another person. Amazing in this day and age.As to the smoker itself: Works extremely well. I was a little surprised that the smoker does not have a heating element, so you light the shavings with a lighter or match, but it was extremely easy to do. Like lighting a pipe (if you are familiar with that): shavings in the bowl, flip the switch to start the blower, hold the match to the bowl, and the shavings light immediately. After thinking about it a while, I think I prefer this method (over my incorrect assumption), since it follows the KISS principle and works very well. I will probably buy a cheap lighter and just keep it in the box with the smoker.On smoking with it: I used it for making smoked cocktails. I had envisioned inserting the tube in the cocktail and the smoke bubbling through it, another incorrect assumption. The manual specifically says not to do this. I followed the manual’s suggestion and put all of the mixed drink ingredients in a shaker, added the smoke, and shook the cocktail. I shook it a little longer than I normally would, so more smoke would get absorbed. I used a glass shaker, which made great presentation. With experimentation (oh, the sacrifices we make), I was able to recreate a local restaurant’s smoked cocktail exactly. The smoke is very detectable in the drink, both taste and bouquet, and does change the experience.As to quality of the smoke, not sure what I expected, but the smoke was very “clean” – white and no particulates. It also stayed around a long time, surprisingly. 15 minutes later, the shaker still contains smoke. I expected either the smoke would be consumed by the shaking, or that it would cool and settle in a relatively short time. Neither happened.As to the quantity of smoke: this was the biggest surprise. Like a previous reviewer, I purchased additional wood chips, but after making 6-8 cocktails, had barely made a dent in the sample wood chips it came with. It also comes out quickly. I expected it to build as the wood ignited and to take just a little time to build up some smoke (clearly I had no idea what to expect), but it begins pouring out immediately. So, you need to be prepared. For the first one I was surprised and had to quickly get it into the shaker. For follow-on drinks, I moved the operation next to the range hood with the exhaust fan already on. I did not set off a smoke alarm the first time, but it is not appealing to have smoke hanging in the kitchen. The smoke does appear to be slightly heavier than air, or at least buoyancy neutral.From the picture, you can tell the shape of the shaker I used. This was excellent, since this particular shaker has a screw-off cap. I settled on a method of removing the cap, holding the tip of the hose right up to the opening, and then cracking the seal on the top so that air could escape. All of the smoke stayed in the shaker, and as soon as it started to come out of the shaker seal, I stopped the smoker and resealed the top. This was an ideal shaker for this application, which I just happened to have, so I got lucky.Absolutely top marks all around. I have used it only that one evening, but for 6-8 shakers (12-16 drinks), and am very happy with it. I bought it for the cocktails, but definitely plan to try it on food. Smoked cheese looks appealing, and I also make baby-back ribs that I intend to try it with.

    This thing is amazing! I had my doubts about how much flavor it could impart, buying it was more of a fun frivolity. I was pleasantly surprised after smoking cheddar with hickory chips how well it infused! I have since smoked eggs, peppercorns, salmon, nuts, soups, salsa, spices, steak, sausage, bacon, tea, and various cheeses. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination!!! As a note, bacon rubbed with pepper and brown sugar, baked and then smoked with hickory or mesquite is delicious and (warning) quite addictive. 😏

    This thing is as cool and as useful as you would think. I’ve got a Bradley smoker, a grill with a smoker box, a smoker tube, all which I love, but for adding a bit of smoke flavor without having to use a grill or major appliance, this is the way to go. Easy to use, cool factor is an 11 and even using the device in the house doesn’t leave the home smelling like you just started a campfire in your kitchen (which my wife appreciates). If you’ve got the money to spend on something that works well for adding some smoke flavor (and you hate the harshness of liquid smoke), pick one up.

    Love love love my smoking gun. I have not stopped using it since I got it. I smoke everything with it. Picture is Bagel cream cheese, sausage, cheese. I have even did drinks and desserts.

    I did my research so I am not surprised at how awesome this little smoking gun is! I freaked out and thought the little jar of wood it came with wasn’t enough and bought a much bigger bag to go along with it… and i haven’t even had to touch the bag yet! That little jar just keeps going and going and going.We have been smoking a lot of the meats we eat before we cook them and some veggies as well.If anything happened to this, I’d cry and rush on here to buy another one!

    I love this toy. But lets be honest, this is far from replicating the smoke flavor of a real slow smoke session. Flavor stays on the surface of the food and is uneven. Still, during the very long months of Canadian winter, I did enjoy the light smokey flavor I got from it. Now that warmer months are here, this hand held smoker will stay in the cupboard until snow comes back.

    Works great with cheeses especially if you like a smoked cheddar and such. The smoke flavor is very quickly absorbed into the cheese.Did not work as effectively with meats where once you finish cooking the steak , the smoke flavor becomes very subtle.Tip: do not put too much wood chips in at once or stuff it, it is less effective that way.

    La rejilla se tapa y hace que no salga suficiente humo, pensé que podría salir más tiempo continuo el humo pero al parecer y no puedo asegurar aunque se tenga la reserva llena de astillas o chips la rejilla empieza a acumular residuos Y entonces aunque se tenga la máxima potencia ya no puede a pasar el humo y por lo tanto se apaga la madera que se tiene. con este método No se podría lograr un ahumado constante por lo que debo limpiar el recipiente y la rejilla y eso es un tanto engorroso sobre todo cuando quiero ahumar carnes de gran tamaño que sean muchas piezas Entonces es engorroso además que está muy pero muy caro

    This was a gift to three people , one has used it extensively since receiving this product. He has used it to smoke cheese that he indicates tasted fabulous. He did find that it was better to smoke things under a glass bowl as opposed to a zip locked bag which tended to let out too much smoke.

    This is a really easy to use beginner smoker — perfect for dinner for two or something like that. This works precisely as advertised – it’s easy to get going and works well.The only knock I have against this is that it does seem to burn through the wood chips pretty fast. I’m not concerned about the cost of the chips per se but rather that I have to constantly come back to the smoking gun to refill the hopper. Ideally, I’d set this outside, put a bunch of chips in, let it smoke and come back in 15-20 minutes. I guess safety first.

    If you are into smoking meats and cheeses this is not for you. However, if you want to enhance the flavour spectrum of your food this is the tool that does that. Steaks take on a suttle flavour that your guests will say,”That is a great steak but what is that flavour I taste?” It won’t be obnoxiousness but just there. If you like thyme and oregano this is for you.

    LOVE love my Smoking Gun. It is small and easy to use. I have very limited storage space and it can be easily stored with a variety of wood chips containers in a plastic shoe box bin. For all who do not have access to a bbq or smoker it is the closest you can get to a perfect smoke flavour that you can control.
